The Winter Wonderland of New London

Winter in New Hampshire is thrilling. Whether you want to snow shoe, glide across a lake on skates, ski downhill or across the fields, we have it all. New Hampshire is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes and the snow creates a unique and unforgettable experience.

Thinking about outdoor activities in the winter sparks childhood memories. Growing up in New Hampshire not only provides you with survival instinct, but also builds pride for what the state has to offer. It only took my whole elementary school career to perfect my ice skating skills. Conveniently, New London is surrounded by several rinks, so my skills remain sufficient to spark my joy for the sport! Snowshoe New London

One of my most nostalgic experiences is when I’m snow shoeing through a completely empty forest. It’s like the world is contained, holding its breath. The snow being shin deep and the clusters of heavy snow on the bowing tree branches forces a hush that I am fearful to disturb with each step. It’s like a moment of meditation. Organic serenity. New London and the surrounding areas have plenty of trails for you to discover and recall this feeling for yourself.

While a peaceful winter scape is always nice, the appetite for heading down a mountain at ludicrous speeds calls to some of us creating a different kind of yearning. The Inn at Pleasant Lake is comfortably nestled between multiple ski mountains.  Ragged Mountain in Danbury, hosts 57 trails to visitors. If 57 trails just aren’t enough for you the other local mountain, Mount Sunapee, holds 66! Both of these mountains have a variety of activities so if skiing isn’t for you, you can go tubing, sip hot chocolate or simply relax by a fire while you wait for your family. Like I do.

Whatever your fancy, New London and the surrounding areas have options. Below you’ll see a list to some of the local trails and Ice Skating rinks.
