BUILT IN 1790 - History of the Inn at Pleasant Lake

Inn at Pleasant Lake was built as a private residence in 1790 by Caleb Segur. He farmed over 400 acres of pasturelands in the lake valley. It was here, close to the shores of Pleasant Lake, where he built his Cape style farmhouse and barn. 

​

The property was later purchased by retired Union officer Colonel William Messer and opened as an Inn in 1868. He added a second story and a row of deep gables and named his Summer resort The Red Gables Inn. It has remained a destination for hospitality for over 150 years. 

​

The tradition of hospitality continues today at Inn at Pleasant Lake. Our restaurant, The Oak Room, named as a tribute, continues to offer the finest locally sourced food in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The gables, the lake, the food, and the views remain, waiting to welcome you.
