March and April are proving to be very exciting around the Inn at Pleasant Lake. Our kitchen is getting a new chef, an event that hasn’t happened here in nineteen years. While finding a new chef is not really a rare event in the restaurant business, our loyal guests know how special and rare the Inn at Pleasant Lake dining experience has become. We were not searching for just any chef, nor simply focusing on culinary talent. We also wanted to ensure that the experience our guests enjoy would continue with the same personal engagement and quality of both food and service. We encouraged new ideas, experiences, and tastes that a new chef would offer, but did not want to disrupt the format and experience our unique setting brings to the area.
Our process involved a national search with over 50 candidates applying from across the country (Florida, Chicago, Oregon, as well as the Northeast to name a few). This was a collaborative effort by our whole team, and we are grateful to Chef Brian MacKenzie for his engagement in securing his successor. We knew we had selected a great chef immediately after experiencing his 6-course meal prepared in a “Top Chef” competitive fashion (blind ingredients with no prep time). The common description was – goosebumps! So without further ado, please meet Chef Bryan Leary, a New Hampshire native that has found his way back home, and brings a wealth of culinary experience to the Inn. Read more about Chef Leary on our staff page.
Our transition will occur between March 21 (Chef Leary’s first day) and April 17 (Chef MacKenzie’s depart day), and we have several fun events planned to support the transition.
