Jen and I were going about our typical daily duties at the Inn this week, when we received an unexpected visit from some neighbors in New London who were out for a bicycle ride on a beautiful afternoon. The circuit around Pleasant Lake is a popular destination for cyclists and goes right in front of the Inn. They introduced themselves as representatives of the Alternative Energy Committee of New London. We had never heard of the committee, but became instantly curious as to the purpose of their visit. They related a story of how the previous night they had been debating with friends where the closest EV (Electric Vehicle) charging station might be, and brainstorming ways to incentivize New London locations to install charging stations. To settle the debate, they did a quick search with one of the EV charging map apps, and to everyone’s surprise, up popped our newly installed charging stations at the Inn at Pleasant Lake! They were astonished and thrilled, and resolved to come check out our offering the next day. We spent about an hour with them explaining our program and how and why we decided to offer the charging service for the convenience of our guests, and we learned about upcoming events and activities around town focused on alternative energy ideas. What a great example of the serendipity that can happen in the EV world. That’s a big part of why we decided to offer charging.
We now offer both a Tesla Charging Station and a universal EV Charging Station courtesy of Select Registry and Tesla Motors! These overnight charging stations are free of charge for guests staying at our New London inn or while they dine with us. Outside guests may use the stations for a small fee of $15 between the hours of 9am and 5pm.
